Chocolate Origin

Warning: This little box contains one of the finest chocolate cakes I’ve tasted this side of Singapore.

Despite being a sweltering afternoon, we badly wanted some Magnum (no thanks in part to the 1-for-1 promotion they have going on now), so we headed over to Changi Village to get some ice cream. On our way back to Treehouse Villas @ Changi, this unsuspecting shop stood out, not because it was the only one with chic, minimalistic decor but also because I saw the word “chocolate” emblazoned in bright, orange letters.

“Now, what is this new devilry?”, I asked Nessa.

Clueless, we stood in front of the store for a good 3 minutes trying to figure out what was going on. What was Chocolate Origin? Why does it look sooo promising? And why haven’t we heard of it?

We hesitated. After all, we already had plenty of Magnums in our 7-11 plastic bag. Surely, we couldn’t squeeze in chocolate cake too?

Riiiiight.

Who were we kidding?

We promptly bought the smallest one (6-inch) and it was the best $29 I’ve spent this entire week.

I’m slightly upset that I didn’t cut the cake more delicately, making it look less picture perfect…

… because this delicious piece of heaven was rich, velvety smooth and had just the right amount of sweetness. It was an orgasmic first taste where mmms, oohs, and aahs were completely necessary.

Paired with a glass of ginger beer (you thought that was champagne, didn’t you? hehe!), it was a perfect, perfect afternoon.

Now wipe that drool from your mouth and run down to Changi Village right now. ;)

Treehouse Villas @ Changi

Know anyone from MINDEF? You may want to make some friends from there now if you’d like to stay in a fancy chalet like no other. ;)

Nessa managed to score a sneak peek at the new Treehouse Villas @ Changi. And people? It is niiiiiiiice. Done up in the style of a typical Balinese resort (alas, sans amenities), we were very impressed with how beautiful and tranquil the place looked. It truly is unlike any other government chalets we’ve ever been to.

I’ll let the rest of the pictures speak for itself. :)

Heading up towards the main lobby (which I forgot to take pictures of)

A sign directing you to the various chalets.

A cosy “resort”.

There’s even a convenience store that opens till 10pm daily.

Welcome to our villa, Cantik 3A.

An in-villa BBQ pit.

Let’s go in now…

Soft lighting and Balinese-inspired decor makes it all look so chic and elegant.

One of two bathrooms in the villa.

They even provide shower caps and basic toiletries.

The main bathroom leads out to the outdoor rain shower!

Ah, bliss!

This second bedroom sleeps three, comfortably.

The master bedroom even has a flat screen TV and an in-villa safe.

And here’s a balcony shared by both bedrooms.

We would’ve preferred it if there was a pool for us to splash around in, and maybe if there was a cafe/bar for guests to chill out at. Also, as much as we loved that there was StarHub cable TV, we were quite bewildered by the fact that there were only two sports channels available, despite the fact that this is a chalet for SAF men. Despite all that, we were very, very impressed by the amount of detail that went into this, and we believe it’s gonna be a hit when it’s launched. Seriously, just look at the place! :p

Song of the Day

Inside These Lines, by Trent Dabbs

The cousin gets hitched

Being a single child, my cousins mean the world to me. We’re practically siblings, only we don’t see each other as often, so we don’t fight and there’s always plenty of love (and noogies) going around.

Today, my cousin James got married and I had to bite my lip from crying my eyes out because I was just that happy for him. This is a man who together with two other cousins, Andy and Thommy, have always teased me, looked out for me, and loved me as their kid sister. And now he’s all grown up, starting a family of his own, and being that amazing protector to his wife and future children.

Exchanging of rings

Saying his vows

First kiss as man and wife

As I saw James going through the solemnisation, I couldn’t help being in awe of how much he’s grown. When we were younger, he was always the quietest among the boys, and was even kinda shy. Then he grew older and really came into his own. He started to find his voice and became more confident. All this time, he remained thoughtful, down-to-earth, generous and kind. I’m incredibly proud of the man that he is today, and I can’t wait for him to become a father.

I love you, James. And welcome to the family, Joana. ;)

Sidenote: I hate that we didn’t get Thommy in the picture and that I didn’t get a personal photo taken with the newlyweds!
