“I’ve been cheating on fashion with furniture”

Half the time as I was watching Sex And The City 2 with the girls, I was taking down mental notes. Notes for my future apartment. From chandeliers and couches, to wallpapers and walk-in-closets, I must have coveted about a million things (clothes and shoes not included) by the time the movie ended. It was like watching Elle Decor come to life, and developing plenty of furniture lust as a result.

Take this blue couch and coffee table for instance:

The marriage of contemporary (couch) and vintage (table) is at its best here, and the coffee table just grows on you. Then, there’s this headboard and those curtains:

I have a soft spot for grand, upholstered headboards and dark, heavy curtains. They just evoke a certain sense of luxury and is perfect backdrop for a rainy evening. Then of course, there’s The Closet:

Seriously? There are NO WORDS.

It was also nice to see Carrie’s old apartment, which as we all remember from the previous film, was gorgeous:

When I grow up, I also want a space like that. Yes, down to those floral chairs. But maybe not the blue walls, especially if the space isn’t as open. Then again, they do add to the mood…

Alas, the sad realisation that I was still living with my parents at 27 (as much as it’s highly normal/common in Asian culture) brought me back down to earth and while I love my room in all its refurbished glory, I really can’t wait to style my own apartment. And I know a couple of girls who will agree with me.

Ahhh, wedding blogs. They’re my new favourite thing. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not itching to get married or anything. I’m simply loving the photography that’s featured in them. While I appreciate the people shots that really capture the precious moments, it’s the event styling shots that have caught my eye. They’re amazing! So many of them are whimsical, vintage-inspired, and just too gorgeous for words. It’s kinda making me regret not getting myself into a profession that is more aesthetically pleasing. What can I say? I like pretty things.

Ever since Dia, Nessa & I stayed at that gorgeous B&B during our trip to Amsterdam, I have developed a newfound love for conservatories. Largely uncommon in Singapore, I’ve only ever seen them in magazines and on the Cluedo board. Little did I know how much tranquility a small space like that could offer. Sitting in that sweet little nook truly made breakfast (yes, our breakfast was served there every day!) all the more pleasurable, with the radiant sun peeking through the windows, and the lush greenery illuminating the serenity of the moment. I can attest to the fact that it was something we looked forward to each morning we were there. Of course, I admit that half the fun was attributed to the sheer novelty of it all, but I honestly believe that if I had a conservatory of my own, it’d easily be one of my favourite spots in the house. I’ll be able to enjoy the comfort of staying indoors yet still be surrounded by nature at the same time. It’s a perfect mesh!

I’m inspired by these pictures that I found on House to Home and Ideal Home. With conservatories like these, I’m gonna find it extremely difficult to tear myself away from my home.

I love this studio in so many ways.

First, there is that great use of space. The bed, tucked behind the couch, manages to maintain a sense of privacy. And despite its tiny size (it’s only 340 sq ft!), it doesn’t look cramped at all. Then, there’s the colour scheme, which completely soothes the weary soul after a hard day’s work. Now, the furniture – the couch is fuss-free, yet inviting; the Verner Panton chairs and the Marcel Breuer Wassily armchair add a touch of classic modernity without being too cliche; the vertical bookshelf lends an air of carelessness in an otherwise put-together room; the ladder epitomises a childhood fantasy-turned-reality where we can climb up and down without having to worry about any librarian yelling at us. And THAT MAP. As far as wall decals go, that has got to be my absolute favourite. To me, it symbolises the free-spirited nature that yearns to travel the world, allowing you to continue dreaming about visiting off-beat cities and quaint towns.

I’d totally move into this apartment in a heartbeat.

I’m a huge sucker for packaging. Tell me you’re not, and chances are, I won’t quite believe you. After all, it’s the first thing we see, and while not always accurately representative, it gives us an idea of what’s inside. So yes, I won’t ever hesitate to choose the prettier option. That way, I’d at least have the comfort of knowing that it looked good.

When I saw these adorable chocolates, I couldn’t help but squeal (lame pun, I know). The clean design and font choice was perfect for such a simple pleasure, and the copy, complete with an “Oink!” on each square totally makes it fun. The logo too, adds to the whole quirkiness, with the little wiggly tail sticking out of the “g”. Gimme a Fat Pig now!

I can honestly say I’ve never seen a more eclectic house. And while there’s a bit too much going on for me, it still manages to be really charming, and somehow, all the different elements fit. Also, I LOVE how that couch looks. Don’t you just wanna crawl up to it and snuggle under the furry blue throw?
